A Residency Shaped by Material, Craft, and Light
Contemporary Canadian furniture and atmospheric Spanish lighting meet within a renewed heritage setting, revealing the power of design in context
This summer, The Adelaide Project by TPL Lighting welcomes a residency that captures the essence of its purpose: demonstrating how lighting, furniture, and architecture work together to create meaningful interior experiences. Developed in collaboration with Coolican & Company and Bover, the installation brings together contemporary Canadian furniture and atmospheric Spanish lighting within a thoughtful setting that blends heritage character with modern design.
The pairing feels natural. Coolican & Company is known for its refined interpretation of Shaker-inspired furniture, crafted in Toronto using FSC-certified North American hardwoods, living brass, and time-honoured construction methods. Designed to age gracefully, each piece reflects a commitment to longevity, repairability, and enduring relevance.
Complementing the furniture is Bover, the Barcelona-based lighting manufacturer celebrated for its contemporary, nature-inspired designs. Warm, layered illumination and sculptural forms introduce a distinctly Mediterranean sensibility, creating depth, comfort, and atmosphere throughout the space.
Together, these elements demonstrate something central to The Adelaide Project’s mission: furniture is never experienced in isolation. Lighting reveals texture, accentuates form, and influences how materials are perceived. It brings objects to life. By experiencing these pieces within a fully realized environment, visitors gain a deeper understanding of how design decisions affect the overall character and performance of a space.
The residency opens with an evening celebrating the partnership, featuring Canadian wines thoughtfully paired with Spanish cuisine. The combination reflects the collaboration itself: distinct perspectives brought together through a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, hospitality, and design.
For Coolican & Company, whose work is widely specified in residential projects, the residency presents an opportunity to connect with architects, designers, and procurement professionals working across hospitality and commercial sectors. The Adelaide Project, created by TPL Lighting as a working studio for Toronto’s design community, provides the ideal setting. Here, lighting is experienced within the context of materials, furniture, and architecture, allowing design intent to be evaluated, refined, and realized with confidence.
More than a showroom, The Adelaide Project is a place to work, collaborate, and explore ideas. Drop in, experience the residency firsthand, and discover how thoughtful lighting transforms the way we experience space. Book an appointment at info@tpllighting.com. On through July 2025.
